On Friday, May 13, members of the Atlantic City Police Department’s Special Investigations Section conducted an investigation in the area of the Carver Hall Apartment complex.
The investigation was a result of information detectives received concerning a male armed with a handgun.
Detectives Eric Evans and Alberto Valles observed a male, a 17-year-old juvenile, matching the description of the armed suspect. The detectives also observed the juvenile continually adjusting a bulge in his waistband. When the detectives approached the juvenile, he attempted to flee. During the ensuing foot chase, the detectives observed the male remove a handgun from his waist and hold it as he fled. The detectives ultimately apprehended the male after observing him discard the handgun.
The recovered handgun was found to have a high-capacity magazine and was loaded with hollow point ammunition, police said. Detectives also determined the handgun was a “Ghost Gun”, a firearm that lacks a serial number, rendering the weapon difficult to trace.
The teenager was charged with several weapons offenses, resisting arrest and obstruction.
The juvenile was being held in the Harborfields Youth Detention Center.
